Duodenal ulcer
It is important to properly use aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs , which can cause heartburn and sometimes ulcers. The sensitivity to these drugs varies from person to person. The risk of gastric ulcer is 5% when taking anti-inflammatories for a short period and 30% when taking them extended.
Here are some useful information. For more information, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
- Sometimes, to relieve pain (headache, muscle pain, joint pain, etc..) is better use acetaminophen or another medicine that your doctor will suggest.
- If you take aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, follow the dosage and duration of treatment recommended. One should not consume NSAIDs over several weeks without a clearly prescription.
- It may be wise to use anti-inflammatory drug together with an anticid, which prevents heartburn, or with a cytoprotective as misoprostol.
- The anti-inflammatory drugs are divided into 2 main categories: conventional and coxib. These have a more specific and have less risk of adverse effects on the stomach.
- Beware of taking a drug wich contains aspirin or contains subsalicylate bismuth to relieve the symptoms of ulcer because sometimes can worsen in some individuals. Bisphosphonates drugs to treat osteoporosis, can sometimes cause ulcers.

Measures to prevent Duodenal ulcer escalation
- Take several small meals regularly, eat slowly and chew each mouthful well. Do not leave the stomach empty for a long period because it helps reduce the symptoms
.
- Avoid drinking while eating.
- Avoid eating before going to bed.
- Stop smoking, because smoking can delay and even prevent the healing of damaged gastric mucosa.
- Make sure to reduce your stress level and make the appropriate changes to your life (work, a specific situation, relationship, etc..). While stress does not cause ulcers, we believe it would be a major aggravating factor.
- Be careful with foods and beverages that worsen your symptoms. Alcohol, coffee (even decaf), tea, milk and dairy products, chocolate, drinks cola, some spices (black pepper, mustard seed, nutmeg), as well as foods rich in fats cause pain in many people. Avoid them or consume a small amount with other foods. As for the yogurt and honey, their use contributes to the healing of peptic ulcers.
- Before you eat a natural health product orally, make sure it will not aggravate your ulcer.
